A Very Interesting and Rare Ivory-Mounted Classical Violin Bow, Vienna, circa 1770
This bow, made in Vienna in about 1760, is exactly the sort of bow which would have been used by the young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his father Leopold (plausibly even BY them!), and though of delicate construction is in remarkably good condition for its age. It has been used professionally in concerts and recordings over the course of the past few years (well, centuries, really), and in spite of the light construction (typical for the time and style) it is strong and responsive to play with. Many similar examples are present in museum collections worldwide, and they represent a very important juncture in violin bow development, as well as being very sought after for modern use by historically informed performers and ensembles.
