A Silver and Tortoiseshell-Mounted English Violin Bow by W.E. Hill & Sons (probably Arthur Barnes), stamped 'W.E. Hill & Sons'
Now available for sale at our Dublin office is this lovely silver and tortoiseshell-mounted, full brand violin bow by revered English workshop W.E. Hill & Sons. These bows have been extremely popular with players since the late 19th century, and for good reason; the sound quality and level of finesse in making rivals that of many, much more expensive French examples. In very good condition, and sold with our certificate of valuation for insurance purposes.
The Hill company can trace its origins to at least the 18th century and maker Joseph Hill, who established his workshop in London during the early 1750s. This bow dates from the early part of the 20th century, by which point the firm of W. E Hill & Sons had expanded to become a world-renowned purveyor of the finest antique and modern making, as well as bows, cases, and various other accessories.
