A Good German Violin, circa 1900, bearing a Johann Baptist Schweitzer label
This violin was made in approximately 1900, and bears a label which attributes it to Johann Baptist Schweitzer (though Schweitzer was an earlier maker). It is set up to a very high standard, and has been the trusted second instrument of an active professional concert musician for many years, having also carried her through her conservatoire studies in Germany.
While many instruments of this sort were constructed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they vary a lot in quality. This example, worked by an extremely skilled hand and finished to a very high standard, is certainly the best example I have ever seen of its type. Available to view and try now
