A Flemish Violin, circa 1700, probably by a member of the Hofmans Family.

It's difficult to believe this violin has been entertaining audiences for over three hundred years! Presented in excellent condition and ready to be heard by new audiences, this beautiful Flemish violin was crafted in around 1700, probably by a member of the Hofmans family, and would suit a professional-level player or other gifted player looking to upgrade to their first serious instrument after conservatoire to commence competitions, orchestral trials, etc.

The Hofmans family is considered to be the most important instrument making dynasty in Antwerp, Belgium, for over two centuries. They were already active in instrument making by the 16th century, as is evidenced in documents dating from the 1530s, and their instruments are most closely influenced by early 17th century outlines and patterns used by the Amati family of Cremona, Italy.
