A German Violin, possibly Neuner & Hornsteiner Workshop, Mittenwald, circa 1880
One of the many thousands of instruments made in various European workshops (predominantly in Germany and France from approximately the 1860s onwards), these violins are in reasonably good supply due to the volume of their construction, however there is often a huge disparity in both making and sound quality. Therefore, though the price doesn't fluctuate dramatically, the quality can, and this instrument is both skilfully constructed and offers a more complex array tonal colours than a vast number of its compatriots.
Bearing a facsimile Nicolo Amati label.
