An Interesting Violin, labelled 'Dalziel & Napier, Ayr...', circa 1900, after Stradivari
A very nice violin, most likely a French import (as was common at the time) for sale through the retail firm of Dalziel & Napier of Ayr, Scotland. The quality and style of construction is very similar to the work being produced by the Collin-Mezin workshop during the later years of the 19th century, and tonally it is almost identical. This violin would generally be much more expensive, but due to some prior (now repaired) damage to the front bass side, it is being sold at an accordingly reduced retail figure, and thus represents an excellent opportunity for a player to acquire a professional-sounding violin at an extremely competitive price.
