A French Violin by Jean Baptiste Colin, Mirecourt, 1901
Here we have a French violin by Jean-Baptiste Colin of Mirecourt, retaining the original label and dating from 1901. These violins, extremely similar in style of construction and sound (though more reasonably priced) to the work of the slightly earlier Collin-Mezin pere instruments, work brilliantly and are very well made, usually with beautifully flamed maple as evidenced on the back of this example. Based on a model by Stradivari, these violins are known for their sweet yet powerful and direct tone, and are perfect for advanced players who require an instrument which will carry them through their playing at music college/university level.
