A Fine German Violin by Hermann Stark, Klingenthal, circa 1920
One of a number of recent new arrivals is this gorgeous German violin by Hermann Stark of Klingenthal, which dates from around 1920. This violin has been in the current owners' family for many years, having made the journey from Europe to the United States (there's a repair inscription from a luthier in the Bronx, N.Y. from 1934), and then eventually back to Ireland. It has a phenomenal range, effortlessly transitioning from delicate and subdued to extremely powerful and clear with very little adjustment necessary to the bowing arm. Absolutely worth seeing and trying now.
